All American 30 Quart Pressure Cooker Canner Review

If you have a big family or love canning your own food, then the All American 30 quart is probably on your wish list. It will cook large quantities of food and inexpensive meat cuts to a juicy tenderness in a very short time.

Sounds good? Let's take a closer look

The All American 30 quart can hold 19 pint Jars or 14 quart Jars so it will suit the most avid canner and feed the largest family. However one point to consider is its dimensions. It stands 19'' high and you may find that it may not be suitable if you have an above the stove microwave or something similar. One advantage due to the height of the 30 quart, is that when cooking you do not need to stoop to check the pressure gauge.

Loading and unloading of jars should ideally be done while the canner is still on the stove. This alleviates the need to slide the canner, which could damage the stove surface as well as the canner base. When filled it will weigh a ton and so it is not suitable for glass top or flat ranges.

The all American does not have a gasket. It uses exclusive precision machined faces to provide the seal. This means no more split gaskets when you are halfway through a cook and no frantic calls trying to locate a new one. Don't forget though to apply a film of Vaseline to the surfaces to aid the opening as per the manual.

Other features include an easy to read geared pressure gauge which is mounted on the top of the lid. This can easily be removed for cleaning or replacing by simply unscrewing out and screwing back in.

The pressure regulator weight comes with three settings 5, 10 and 15 pounds per square inch. The lid has a stay-cool Bakelite top handle, while six locking screws hold it securely in place for a perfect seal.

Providing extra safety are two automatic venting features, the safety control valve and an over pressure plug. Double thick edges provide protection on localized points of wear. The All American 30 comes with a canning rack and an instruction manual which includes various recipes.

Spares can be purchased direct from the All American web site.

The downside to this product is its only aluminum made, there are no stainless steel ones if you are looking for that finish. It appears inferior in design compare to the pressure cookwares in the market. Another disadvantage is the fact that it is not recommended for use on glass stove top since it has a concave bottom. Presto 23 Quart Pressure Cooker Canner Review

The Presto name goes a long way back to 1905 when it started to manufacture industrial size pressure canners for commercial canneries. Given this history, if you are in the market for a new pressure cooker canner surely the Presto 23 quart is worth considering?

The Presto 23 quart is made of extra strong Aluminum with an attractive polished finish which is easily cleaned with a soap and water. It can also be kept bright and shiny using a good silver polish.

It is suitable for use on regular and smooth top ranges; however some people have reported that when using a glass top stove the pressure takes longer to come up. Another point to consider is that standing over 16" with the gauge you may not have room if you have an over the range microwave.

Each time the cooker is used the seal ring must be removed and washed in warm sudsy water, dried and replaced in the cover. Because the seal rings are made of rubber, Presto advises replacing them every three years. In our experience we suggest that a spare be purchased after the first year and put in the cupboard just in case. Parts can be ordered online from the presto website.

The presto 23 quart has some good safety features, for example only when the cover is closed properly will the air vent allow pressure to build up. If there is an excessive build up of pressure the over pressure plug will let off the steam while the pressure regulator prevents a build up in the canner above 15 pounds.

A locking bracket situated on the inside of the canner engages with the air vent cover to prevent the cover being opened if there is still pressure in the unit

The presto 23 quart can hold 20 pint jars or 7 quart jars. It has an accurate easy to read pressure gauge, registering pounds per square inch situated on top of the lid for constant pressure monitoring during canning. Maintenance is fairly straight forward and the manual covers all planned cleaning in detail. The presto site has some good information on canning, with lots of recipes for you to try in your new cooker.

Pressure Canners - A Review of the Presto 23 Quart Canner

If you have ever made jams or jellies, you know that you simply put the jars in a boiling water bath for a certain time for the lid to seal. This works when you are canning foods that are acidic, but it won't stop spoilage in non-acidic foods. All vegetables and meats need to be placed in pressure canners in order to get them to a high enough temperature to kill the bacteria that can grow in them.

Presto offers a 23 quart canner for approximately $79. This is a well-known brand that has been in business since 1905. People all across the United States have learned to trust the Presto brand.

This particular canner is seventeen inches deep and 15 and one-half inches in diameter. It is made from heavy duty aluminum which will stand up under the toughest canning season you can imagine. The biggest advantage is that it is not only a pressure canner, but it is, also, a pressure cooker. That means you can use it for regular meals as well.

The short, plastic handles are made in such a way that they stay cool to the touch during the canning process. The lid locks tightly to prevent leakage, and it comes with a pressure regulator, an easy to read dial gauge and a releasable plug that will blow in the event that the pressure inside the cooker becomes too high.

This particular canner comes with a canning rack that goes in the bottom of the canner to protect the jars from bumping together during canning. It includes a recipe book with complete instructions on how to prepare and can different foods and specific recipes you can use. It holds 19 pint jars or 7 quart jars.

Pressure canners are a great investment. You will be able to preserve fresh fruits and vegetables without the added preservatives. They will help you maintain your health and save you time and money, too.

Now you can make the great foods that would have been impossible to create before pressure canners were made available in homes! Start today on a new cooking adventure at http://www.pressurecanners.org!
